Tadoba National Park and Tiger Reserve
Overview
Tadoba National Park is one of the oldest and largest national parks in Maharashtra. This renowned wildlife destination includes the Tadoba National Park (116.55 sq km) and Andhari Wildlife sanctuary (508.85 sq km), which collectively form the Tadoba Andhari Tiger reserve covering total area of 625.4 sq km and encompassing the Chimur Hills, Moharli and Kolsa Ranges. The name of the wildlife sanctuary stems from the god “Tadoba” or “Taru” who is worshipped by the tribal people living in the dense forests of Tadoba and Andhari region. It is a mega biodiversity site that helps in the creation of a unique ecosystem comprising a wide variety of diverse flora and fauna.

Tadoba National Park is famous for its fine accessibility and great tiger sightings which makes this park an ideal place for wildlife lovers. The park is strewn with patches of lush green meadows, dense forest areas and deep valleys. Apart from the Royal Bengal tiger that is the keystone species of the area, the park includes a variety of mammal species such as Indian leopards, sloth bears, gaur, striped hyena, small Indian civet, jungle cats, sambar. The park has around 195 species of birds which include three major endangered species grey-headed fish eagle, the crested serpent eagle, and the changeable hawk-eagle. The park is also a habitat for many reptiles including the marsh crocodiles and endangered Indian pythons.

- By train – The nearest rail connectivity is through Chandrapur railway station that is 45 kms away from the park. Tadoba National Park is also accessible via Nagpur railway station that is around 151 kms from the park premises.
- By Air – Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur is the nearest airport which is 140 kms away from the park and enjoys good air connectivity to other major cities in India like Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai.
- By road – There is good bus connectivity available from a few towns and cities of Maharashtra. The nearest bus stops to the park are Chandrapur, which is 45 kms away and Chimur which is about 32 kms away from Tadoba National Park. Buses and private vehicles from all surrounding cities are well connected to the park.
